Kalanchoe Tomentosa is native to Madagascar and known as Cat Ear or Panda plant. It has lovely leaves that are soft or furry in texture, primarily silver-green. The hair on the tip is a rich chocolate color, so it is also often called Chocolate Soldier.
Hairy kalanchoes often grow up to two feet in controlled environments like indoor gardens as drought-resistant succulents. It thrives when it has access to direct light, Panda Plant loves bright light, and 6 hours of sunlight a day is a good choice. It is also essential to provide it with good ventilation. Sometimes they also need shade to keep them from getting burned by the excessive sun.
As a drought-tolerant succulent, the panda plant doesn't require a lot of water, so you don't have to water it as often, usually only once a week in mild hot weather and biweekly in colder months. You can wait for the soil to dry before watering, being careful not to leave water in the bottom tray.
Because panda plants are prone to root rot, we recommend using a cactus and succulent potting mix, or other well-drained soil will do. Mix perlite with standard soil and furry panda plants thrive in this environment. If you are uncomfortable making your own, you can buy these materials in our store.
