How to care for Sedum Adolphi 'Firestorm'
Sun/Location: Sedum Adolphi 'Firestorm' is easy to survive in summer, the succulent enjoys bright light. During the summer, when temperatures consistently exceed 95°F, it is advisable to move the plant to a location where it can be shielded from intense sunlight. However, the succulent plant can tolerate full sunlight for the rest of the year. Particularly during early spring and autumn, when there are temperature variations, it is crucial to ensure sufficient light exposure to bring out the succuent plant's beautiful colors. Otherwise, it may remain yellow-green throughout the year and may become leggy.
Soil/Pot: Succulents suitable for outdoor growth also have higher requirements for soil drainage. Mix particles and potting soil in a ratio of 7:3. Beginners can also opt to purchase specialized succulent potting soil. Due to its upright growth and clustering nature, planting Sedum Adolphi 'Firestorm' can be done in taller flower pots. Over a few years, Sedum Adolphi 'Firestorm' will mature into a cliff-hanging succulent, adding significant value to its ornamental appeal.
Watering: Like most succulents, the "Soak and Dry" method is the best way to water Sedum Adolphi 'Firestorm'. This method helps prevent issues like root rot caused by over-watering. During the summer, reducing watering frequency and choosing the evening hours to water is essential. When watering, direct the water close to the base of the plant rather than splashing it on the leaves. Direct sunlight on water droplets can cause unsightly spots on the leaves. However, the good news is that Sedum Adolphi 'Firestorm' has a fast growth rate, and burnt leaves can be replaced through new growth and metabolic processes.
Propagation: Sedum Adolphi 'Firestorm' is well-suited for propagation from stem cuttings. Select a healthy stem and make a clean cut below a leaf node. Let the cutting dry for a few days to callus. Plant the stem in well-draining succulent soil and place it in a location with bright, indirect sunlight. After a few weeks, roots should develop, indicating successful propagation.
Similar Varieties: Sedum 'Golden Glow', Sedum adolphi, and Sedum Adolphi 'Firestorm' may appear similar, but there are some differences among them. Sedum Adolphi 'Firestorm' and Sedum adolphi have similar leaf shapes, but Sedum Adolphi 'Firestorm' stands out with its more pronounced and vibrant red leaf margins. Especially when it's in its prime state, the striking orange-red color makes it easily distinguishable.
