String of Heart Variegata/ Ceropegia Woodii f. Variegata
About String of Heart Variegata
String of Hearts Variegata is a variegated variety of the Ceropegia linearis succulent native to South Africa. It belongs to the Apocynaceae family. The vines can grow up to 120 cm long and have heart-shaped foliage comes in silver, green, and cream. The leaves are green in the center with white margins. They develop delicate purple-tinged flowers in winter.
How to Care for String of Heart Variegata
Sunlight: Situate near a bright north, east, or west window. The delicate leaves with variegation can scorch easily if exposed to hot direct sunlight for over 2 hours. Filter intense light.
Water: Bottom watering the plant and allowing the soil and roots to drink water from the planter drainage holes. Or soak the plants with the planter pot and get them out of the container after 15 minutes of bath time. Never top watering the string succulents. During active growth seasons, the string of hearts variegated should be watered frequently. Reduce the watering frequency and quantity in winter when the plant goes semi-dormant.
Soil: Use a fast-draining cactus and succulent mix amended with extra perlite or sand to prevent excessive moisture retention.
Planter: Trailing varieties do best in wide and shallow containers with multiple bottom drainage holes. Avoid dense pots that retain water.
Propagation: Take at least 3-inch healthy stem cuttings in spring and allow cut ends to callous over before rooting in the suitable soil mix. Keep soil slightly moist initially.
Fertilizer: Feed every 2-3 weeks during peak growing season with a balanced cactus fertilizer diluted to half strength.
