About Crassula Ovata Hummel Sunset/Golden Jade Plant
Crassula ovata' Hummel Sunset,' commonly known as Golden Jade or Yellow-edged Jade, is an evergreen succulent subshrub with oval-shaped leaves with beautiful gold and yellow edges. The coloration of the leaf edges tends to intensify during the year's cooler months. It is a popular cultivar of the common Jade Plant (Crassula ovata). During the fall and winter, this variety of Jade Plant produces clusters of small white blossoms, adding to its charm and beauty. It is a low-maintenance succulent and a popular choice for indoor gardens and as a houseplant due to its attractive appearance and easy care requirements. 'Hummel Sunset' is a forgiving succulent, great for succulent beginners. Many people enjoy cultivating Jade Plants indoors and in workplaces, as they are regarded as symbols of good fortune.
How to care for Crassula Ovata Hummel Sunset/Golden Jade Plant
Sun/Temperature: Like other Crassula ovata, 'Hummel Sunset' can be planted indoors or outdoors. Crassula Ovata' Hummel Sunset' requires abundant sunlight to display its vibrant colors and achieve a compact and attractive growth habit. Insufficient sunlight will result in the leaves turning green, the leaf arrangement becoming loose, elongated stems, and very tender branches. Crassula Ovata Hummel Sunset prefers a moderate climate and goes into a summer dormancy period. If temperatures become too high, it should be moved to a bright area with indirect sunlight, and watering should be reduced. During the winter, as temperatures drop, it's best to bring it indoors for care. As long as the temperature stays above 41°F, it can safely overwinter.
Watering/Soil: For indoor containers, the most potent killer to consider when growing Jade Plants is overwatering. They are more sensitive to water. The best way of watering is the soak-and-dry method. Growing them outdoors will build your small shrubs, which stand long-term neglect. Bring it indoors before a frost. Crassula Ovata Hummel Sunset, like most succulents, requires well-draining soil to prevent waterlogged roots and root rot. Opt for a specialized succulent or cactus mix, or blend regular potting soil with perlite or coarse sand to create your mixture. This soil type allows excess water to drain away quickly, ensuring the plant's roots stay healthy.
Propagation:
Let's explore how to plant these cuttings!
Callus Formation: Before planting the cuttings, allow their ends to dry and callus for a day or two. This step helps reduce the chances of rot when they are planted.
Planting: Once the cuttings have formed calluses, gently insert them into the well-draining soil. You can plant the cuttings individually or together, depending on the size of the container.
Lightly Water: After planting the cuttings, give them a light watering to settle the soil. Be cautious not to overwater; remember that succulents prefer dry conditions.
