- Perlite is a non-smell, lightweight granular material in white color. It's sterile, long-lasting, and easy to handle.
- Mostly, perlite is used as a non-organic additive in potting soil to improve aeration and drainage. That is why you can see it in most of the succulent soil in the market. Other additives widely used in soil are green zeolite, volcanic rock, gritty rocks, sharp sands, and more.
- Besides aid drainage, perlite is very useful in succulent plant propagation. It's neither alkaline nor acidic. Another material that performs similar functions is vermiculite. However, vermiculite holds more water than perlite while using them in the same condition.
- As perlite is super lightweight and dust, you'd better spray some water to avoid inhaling the dust if you are going to use a large amount of perlite. Moreover, perlite is particularly better to be additive instead of ornamental pebbles.
