About String of Dolphins
String of Dolphins, also called dolphin plants, or flying Dolphins, is a rare trailing succulent that’s making waves around the world with its string-like stems that look like tiny little dolphins jumping out of the waves. It’s a hybrid between a string of pearls and a candle plant. They bloom in the fall with small white, tightly compacted flowers.
How to care for String of Dolphins
Sun/Location: String of Dolphins is drought tolerant, but it prefers slightly more water and shade than other succulents. They are most commonly grown indoors as excellent addition in
hanging baskets and
vertical gardens. It can be placed outdoors in spring and fall to get full sunlight. Shade is required in summer to avoid sunburn. In winter,
protection from frost is needed.
Soil/Pot: To ensure the health of succulents, they need porous, well-draining soil to live in. To create an adequate cactus mix, add pumice, perlite, or grit to cactus soil to provide the proper drainage.
Watering: Succulents require little watering but don't like to sit in wet soil. Water thoroughly when the soil is dry. Cut back on watering during the fall and winter when String of Dolphins enters dormancy.
